The Wilde Theatre

Musical
Director : Brian Henry
Accompanist: Judith Flint
The Yeomen of the Guard is one of Gilbert and Sullivan’s
best loved works. A young strolling player, Elsie Maynard, is persuaded
to become the bride of a condemned man, the dashing Colonel Fairfax.
The deed is done, but before he can be executed, Fairfax is helped
to escape. Elsie is left the unhappy bride of a fugitive, Fairfax
is saddled with an unknown wife, and Jack Point, the jester, cannot
marry Elsie, whom he has loved all along. How can this muddle be
resolved?
Sullivan’s magnificent music combines the grandeur of the
mighty Tower, with the wit, grace and melody for which he is justly
famed. The performers include established Park Opera favourites
Debra Morley, Emma Mabin, Ian Henderson, Lindsay Bramley, Ronan
Busfield, Graham Lawder-Stone and Lucy Dickson, and the Narrator
is Sallie Ward.
Join Park Opera for a summer’s evening of drama, romance and
laughter, in the lovely surroundings of South Hill Park, where you
can enjoy a glass of wine on the terrace, or stroll through the
Italian gardens and across the lawns to the lake.
